(1) சென்னையின் குப்பம் ஒன்றில் வசிக்கும் ஏழைக் குடும்பத்தின் இளைய பிள்ளை ‘சின்ன காக்கா முட்டை’ (ரமேஷ்), மூத்த பிள்ளை ‘பெரிய காக்கா முட்டை’ (விக்னேஷ்). அப்பா ஏதோ குற்றத்துக்காகச் சிறை யில் இருக்கிறார். அவரை மீட்டு வரப் போராடுகிறார் அவர்களுடைய அம்மா (ஐஸ்வர்யா). ஒத்தாசையாக இருக்கிறார் பாட்டி (சாந்திமணி). சிறு வர்கள் இருவரும் தண்டவாளங்களின் ஓரங்களில் தவறி விழும் நிலக்கரியைப் பொறுக்கி விற்று ஐந்தோ பத்தோ சம்பாதிக்கிறார்கள்.
‘Small crow’ is a young boy who lives in one of the Chennai slums. ‘Big crow’ is his elder brother. Their father is in jail for some crime. Their mother is struggling to bring him out of jail. Their grandmother is supporting them. Both the boys gather waste coal from the railway tracks. They eat their food from selling it.
(2)  இவர்களது குப்பத்துக்கு அருகே புதிதாக “பீட்சா ஹட்” ஒன்று உதயமாகிறது. டிவி விளம்பரம் வாயிலாக பீட்சா சாப்பிட ஆசைப் படுகிறார்கள். 300 ரூபாய் பெறுமான பீட்சாவை அவர்கள் வாங்கவோ, சாப்பிடவோ முடிந்ததா என்பதை சுவாரஸ்யமான திரைப்படமாகத் தந்திருக்கிறார் புது இயக்குநர் மணிகண்டன்.

A new ‘pizza hut’ comes near their slum. The boys are attracted by the TV advertisements. They want to eat a pizza. The rest of the story explains whether they were able to buy and eat the pizza costing Rs.300? This is the first movie of the director Manigandan.
(3) மிகவும் சாதாரண சம்பவங்களால் ஆன படம்தான் என்றாலும் அந்தச் சம்பவங்கள் மூலம் சொல்லவரும் விஷயம் மிகவும் ஆழமானது. அதற்குக் காரணம் சம்பவங்களில் உள்ள யதார்த்தமும் அவை காட்சிப்படுத் தப்பட்ட விதமும்தான். படம் ஒரு வித உற்சாகத்துடன் நகர்ந்துகொண்டே யிருக்கிறது. சில இடங்களில் மெல்லிய சோகம் இழையோடுகிறது. ஆனால், அது இயல்பாக இருக்கிறது. எந்த இடத்திலும் உணர்வுகளைச் சுரண்டும் போக்கு இல்லவே இல்லை.
The movie had been created with very simple incidents.  But the matter told by them is very strong. This is because of the frankness in communication and the powerful way in which the movie scenes had been shot. The full movie is interesting. But, sometimes there are sad scenes. But it is natural and true. At no place the director had misused our feelings and  emotions.
(4) ஏழைகளையும் அவர்களது குடியிருப்புகளையும் மையமாகக் கொண்ட கதையில் ஏழ்மையை விற்பனைப் பண்டமாக மாற்றும் தன்மை துளியும் இல்லை. விளிம்பு நிலை மக்களின் வாழ்வை வெளியிலிருந்து பார்க்கும் கோணத்தில் அல்லாமல் உள்ளிருந்து காட்டும் கோணத்தில் மணிகண்டன் சித்தரித் திருக்கிறார். அவர்களது சோகங்கள் மட்டுமின்றி, சந்தோஷங்கள், அவர் களுக்கேயான சிக்கல்கள், அவற்றி லிருந்து வெளியேற அவர்கள் மேற் கொள்ளும் முயற்சிகள் ஆகியவை யும் பதிவாகியிருக்கின்றன. பரிதாபத் துக்குரியவர்களாக அவர்களைச் சித்தரித்து, தள்ளி நின்று உச்சுக் கொட்டும் தொனி படத்தில் எங்கும் இல்லை. பார்வையாளர்களிடத்திலும் அத்தகைய அணுகுமுறை ஏற்படத் திரைக்கதை எந்த வாய்ப்பையும் கொடுக்கவில்லை.

The entire movie is based on slum and their living place. But in no place the director used check tactics to make money. He explains the life of very poor people from their point of view. Everything is told very neatly -- their sadness, their happiness, their problems and the steps they take to come out of them. At no place the movie pities them.  Even it does not allow the viewers to pity them in any scene.
(5) ஒரே நகரத்தில் இரு வேறு பொருளாதாரச் சூழ்நிலையில் வாழும் மனிதர்களிடையே தென்படும் ஏற்றத் தாழ்வுகளையும் அதனால் சமூகத்தில் ஏற்படும் மாற்றங்களையும் அநாயாசமாகக் காட்சிப்படுத்தியிருக்கிறார் மணிகண்டன். இது அவருக்கு முதல் படம் என்பது ஆச்சரியமளிக்கிறது.
They story explains at the same time the ups and downs in two life styles i.e. the rich and poor. And the changes that happen in the society due to them, is shown very casually. It is difficult to believe that this is the first movie for the director.
(6) காக்கா முட்டையை எடுத்துக் குடிக்கும் காட்சியில் பெரியவன் மூன்று காக்கா முட்டைகளில் ஒன்றைத் தனக்கும், மற்றொன்றைத் தம்பிக்கும் தந்துவிட்டு இன்னொன்றைக் காக்காவுக்காக வைக்கும் காட்சி நெகிழவைக்கிறது. தோசை மாவில் பீட்சா செய்ய முயலும் பாட்டி, பையன்களைப் பார்க்க முடியாமல் தவிக்கும் அப்பா என்று பல காட்சிகள் மனதைத் தொடுகின்றன. பீட்சா கடை நிர்வாகத்தின் அணுகுமுறை, பொதுப் பிரச்சினையை அணுகுவதில் ஊடகங்களின் போக்கு, அரசியல்வாதிகள், அவர்களது அல்லக் கைகளின் நடவடிக்கைகள் ஆகியவை யதார்த்தமாகவும் வலுவாகவும் சித்தரிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.
In a scene, the elder boy takes out three eggs of a crow from a nest, then drinks one, then gives one to his younger brother and leaves back one for the crow. This scene is very touching. There are many excellent scenes in the movie like -- the grandmother struggling to make pizza from dosa dough, the father’s suffering, because of his inability to see his sons etc. Many points had been shown in a frank and powerful way like -- the method in which the ‘pizza hut’ shop in run, the way the TV and newspaper media is handling general problems, the politicians and their group.
(7) “நாளிக்கி ஆர்ப்பாட்டத்துக்கு வந்துரு, நூறு ரூபாயும் பிரியாணியும் தராங்களாம்” என்னும் வசனம் யதார்த்தத்தைப் பளிச்சென்று புரியவைக்கிறது. சிம்புவைப் பயன்படுத்தியுள்ள விதம் படத்துக்கு சுவையைக் கூட்டுகிறது. இந்தக் கதையை எல்லோரும் பார்க்கும்படியான சுவாரசியமான சினிமாவாக்கியதில் திரைக்கதைக்கும் ஒளிப்பதிவுக்கும், படத்தொகுப்புக்கும் முக்கியப் பங்கு உள்ளது. மணி கண்டனே ஒளிப்பதிவையும் மேற் கொண்டுள்ளார். சென்னையின் குப்பத்தைப் பிளந்துகொண்டு போய் வருகிறது கேமரா. குப்பத்து மனிதர்கள், அழுக்கான ஆடைகள், சுகாதாரமற்ற தெருக்கள், தனிக் கழிப்பறைகூட இல்லாத குடிசைகள், அருகிலே ஓடும் கூவம் இத்தனையையும் கொஞ்சம்கூட சினிமாத்தனமே இல்லாமல் அப்படியே அள்ளியெடுத்து வந்திருக்கிறார் மணிகண்டன்.
“Hey guys, be present tomorrow for the strike, you will be given Rs.100 and a packet of Biriyani” – dialogues like this explains clearly the present day situations. The way in which actor Simbu was used in the movie is a great plus point. To make this movie an interesting one, there is lot of contribution from the story, photography and editing. The Asst. Director Manikandam himself had handles the camera. The camera goes to all the places in the Chennai slum. People of the slum, their dirt dresses and streets, houses without individual toilets, the River Coovam – all these are shown with realism and without any cinematic changes. "Excellent job" Mr. Manikandan. 
(8) மனிதர்கள் மீதும், வாழ்க்கையின் மீதும் நம்பிக்கை தரும் சினிமாவாக இது இருக்கிறது என்றால் அதற்கு முக்கியக் காரணம் படத்தைத் திரையில் தந்த விதம். திரை மொழி புத்துணர்ச்சியூட்டக்கூடியதாக உள்ளது. படத்தின் வண்ணமும் வசீகரமானதாக அமைந்திருக்கிறது.
The excellent screen play puts lot of confidence in our present day people and their life.   The colour is also nice and the cinema language is also great.
 (9) படத்தின் பக்க பலம் சிறுவர்கள் ரமேஷும், விக்னேஷும். கதாநாயக நடிகருக்குக்கூட முதல் படத்தில் இவ்வளவு கைதட்டல் கிடைக்குமா என்பது சந்தேகமே. ஐஸ்வர்யா, சாந்திமணி,       ‘சூது கவ்வும்’ ரமேஷ், பாபு ஆண்டனி, கிருஷ்ணமூர்த்தி, ஜோ மல்லூரி என அனைவருமே படத்தின் உயிரோட்டத்துக்கு உதவுகிறார்கள். வாழ்வு மீதான நம்பிக்கை துளிர்க்கச் செய்யும் ஆக்கபூர்வமான ஆற்றல் படம் முழுவதும் உள்ளது. பிற் பகுதிக் காட்சிகளில் சற்றே எட்டிப் பார்க்கும் நாடகீயத் திருப்பங்களை ஒதுக்கிவைத்துவிட்டால் பிசிறற்ற, விறுவிறுப்பான, யதார்த்தமான கலைப் படைப்பு என்று இந்தப் படத்தைத் தயங்காமல் சொல்லிவிடலாம்.
Ramesh and Vignesh, the two boys are the plus point in this movie. No hero would have got so many claps in their first movie like these boys. Other actors like Iswariya Santhimani, ‘soothu kavvum’ Ramesh,  Babu Antony, Krishnamoorthy, Joo Malluri – all help in keeping the movie interesting. The entire movie is filled with positive thinking. This makes it possible for new and fresh ideas to appear in our life.  Though a few scenes in the second half are like a drama, we can definitely say that this movie is a --- FLAWLESS, INTERESTING AND FRANK "ART PIECE".
(10)வசனங்கள்_இயல்பானவை._ஆனால்_ஆழமானவை. படத்தொகுப்பாளர் கிஷோரும் குறிப்பிட்டுச் சொல் லப்பட வேண்டியவர். எந்தக் காட்சி யும் தேவையான அளவுக்கு மேல் நீளவில்லை. பாலிதீன் பையில் தண் ணீரைப் பிடித்துவந்து பாத்திரத்தை நிரப்புவதைப் போகிற போக்கில் ஒரு ஷாட்டில் சாதாரணமாகக் காட்டி விடுகிறார்.
The dialogues are very natural, but deep in meaning. Kishore kumar, the editor had done excellent editing. No scene runs for extra length. He very casually covered the scene in which the water vessel is filled with plastic bags.
(11) அழுக்கான களத்தை எடுத்துக் கொண்டு நேர்மறையான உணர்வை எழுப்பும் ஆரோக்கியமான படத்தைத் தந்திருக்கும் மணிகண்டனும் இதைச் சாத்தியமாக்கிய தயாரிப்பாளர்கள் நடிகர் தனுஷ், இயக்குநர் வெற்றி மாறன் ஆகியோரும் தமிழ் சினிமா வுக்கு புதிய வழியைக் காட்டியுள்ளார் கள். பொதுவாக விருதுகள் பெறும் படமென்றால் அழுதுவடியும் படங் கள் என்ற எண்ணத்தை மாற்றி ஆரோக்கியமான கலகலப்பைத் தந் திருக்கிறது காக்கா முட்டை.   
Director Manigandan took a “dirty place” as his shooting spot, but had created a good movie that creates lot of opening for positive thinking. The producer, actor Dhanush and the Director Vetrimaaran had given a helping hand to him. These three people had showed a new path to Tamil Cinema. Generally all award winning movies will be a sad movie or a tragedy. But this movie, “KAKA MUTTAI”  had changed that trend.
