செப்டம்பர் 7-ம் தேதி பிரேசிலின் ரியோ டி ஜெனிரோவில் பாராலிம்பிக்ஸ் என்றழைக்கப்படும் மாற்றுத் திறனாளிக்கான உலக மெகா போட்டிகள் தொடங்கியபோது, இப்படி ஒரு போட்டி நடைபெறுவதே பெரும்பாலனவர்களுக்குத் தெரியாமல் இருந்தது.
When the para olympics or the international games for the physically challenged, started in Rio De Jenero on September 7, many didn't know that there is such a competition.
இன்றோ பாராலிம்பிக்ஸ் போட்டியைத் தெரியாதவர்கள் யாரும் இல்லை.
But today everybody know about para olympics.
அதற்குக் காரணம் உயரம் தாண்டுதலில் தங்கம் வென்ற தமிழகத்தின் தங்க மகன் மாரியப்பன் தங்கவேல்.
The reason is Mariappan Thangavelu of Tamilnadu, who got the gold in high jump.
பாராலிம்பிக்ஸ் நிறைவு நாளில் நம் நாட்டின் தேசியக் கொடியை ஏந்திச் செல்லும் வாய்ப்பும் மாரியப்பனுக்குக் கிடைத்திருப்பதன் மூலம் ஒரே கல்லில் இரண்டு மாங்காய் அடித்திருக்கிறார்.
It is his double delight for Mariappan to also get the chances to carry our Indian flag in the closing ceremony.

His native place is Periya Vadakampatti a village about 50 kms from Salem.

His mother is a vegetables vendor. She used to go by bicycle and sell vegetables.

While the olympics medal winners were given costly cars and crores of cash prizes, the para olympics winner Mariappan was just congratulated via Twitter messages for his achievement. No cash prizes were given. This was criticized very much in the social media.
